| Our Proud History In the late
1970’s and early 1980’s a Catamaran called ‘La
Ma Tai’ operated half day sails off the beach in Airlie. (This
was long before we had Marinas in the Whitsunday’s). Wendy
Fasso (nee Davis) the wife of the Skipper, prepared the morning
and afternoon teas. From this small beginning grew ‘The Airlie
Birds’.
In 1983 Wendy’s parents, Mitzi and Alistair Davis ran The
Airlie Birds and began provisioning the small but growing Bare Boat
Fleet, first from the Kitchen and Garden Shed of their home in Cannonvale
and then from an old house they purchased in Beach Rd on Cannonvale
Beach. The business grew quickly with their attention for detail
and their policy of ‘no tolerance’ of errors. They were
soon joined in the Business by Son, Brendan and Daughter in law,
Caroline.
In 1991 the Davis family sold half their growing business to an
investor, while they continued to manage the business. By 1997, Brendan
was now the Managing Director and the business had out grown the
old house on Cannonvale Beach, so the move was made into a Warehouse
in Blue Bay Estate, fitted out with commercial Kitchen and large
cold-rooms.
Following the retirement of Alistair Davis in 1998, the Davis family
finally sold their remaining share in The Airlie Birds, with Brendan
staying on as General Manager until December 1999. His replacement
was John Askew who had been with The Airlie Birds since 1989 and
is still General Manager to this date.
In July 2000 The Airlie Birds became a Proprietary Limited Company
and the name was changed to Whitsunday Provisioning Pty. Ltd.
In 2001 we introduced our first Website with on-line ordering.
By the end of 2006 we had again out grown our premises, so the
Warehouse next door was purchased and the floor space doubled.
Whitsunday Provisioning is the only specialist Bareboat Providore
in the Whitsunday’s.
